ARUHE: The perfect getaway

ARUHE COTTAGE

.. is at Whanarua Bay, about half way between Opotiki and Gisborne on SH 35. Yes, it's one of those places you've always wanted to go but have never gotten around to it.

Now is a really good time to shift that reticence and Book.

ARUHE is nestled into the very edge of Raukumara National Forest. The cottage is surrounded by ancient Puriri inhabited by Kereru, Bellbirds and Tui. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean, seen through enormous Pohutukawa which flower abundantly and stunningly between November and December. Neither of the two dwellings on the property can be seen from the main road and the cottage is separated from my house by bush. It is private, tranquil and perfect for the couple who just want to kick back and relax.

The cottage is open plan and is ideal for two people.

The base price of $220.00 is for one or two people sharing a bed. A third is welcome but not recommended for long term stays. However, as this is a no-frills/no hidden costs website it isn't possible to add an "extra fee". There is an extra charge of $80 to have the sofa bed made up so if this is your preference, then I suggest you book on Airbnb or my website.

Things to do

If you're feeling strenuous the beach is just a 10-minute walk away or you could climb the hill behind the cottage. There is also a walk to a terrific waterfall ideal for a refreshing swim. Brrrrr. Short drives will take you to other interesting spots and kainga along SH 35.

Go here to check out a 360* interior video of the cottage.

By the way.....the laundry and the carpark are the only shared areas at Motuaruhe.

I had a wonderful stay at Kim’s place. The location is amazingly relaxing & a great place to get away from it all. You have everything you need in the chalet, which is lovely and clean. The bacon & eggs for breakfast was a very welcome surprise. Thank you Kim for your hospitality, I wish I could have stayed longer!
